What can you learn from a vagabond? To find out, join Michael Garman as the 75-year-old artist discusses his half-century career as America’s Storyteller Sculptor. This interactive event will include an audiovisual demonstration and Q&A session with the artist.
Retrace Michael Garman’s early hitchhiking journey through Central and South America where he learned to sculpt. Follow him through the streets of San Francisco, Dallas, and Philadelphia as he honed his craft. And then discover how he built his masterpiece — Magic Town — a 3,000 square foot sculptural theater that combines handmade sculpture with magical illusions.
His lifelong ambition has been to honor the everyday heroes all around us. With over 500 different sculptures depicting firefighters, cowboys, and soldiers side by side with his downtrodden street characters — down but never out — he has achieved a story worth telling.
Seating is limited, so reservations are recommended. To register, contact Mary Koehler at (719) 963-6900 or publicrelations@michaelgarman.com.
- When: Fri., May 24 from 4 - 5 p.m.
- Where: Old Colorado City Library, 2418 W. Pikes Peak Ave.
